Due to the wide variety of property types at Bolton School, ranging from purpose built historic educational facilities through to modern new-build school developments together with retail premises, sports and conference facilities and outdoor pursuits centres we are on hand for a wide variety of scenarios. This includes managing changes in assessments as the Estate is updated, through to handling unusual property types and questions over entitlements to various reliefs.
Over multiple rating revaluations, we have appealed and challenged the assessments to minimise the rates liabilities for the School. In addition, as their facilities are so extensive, we have also reviewed the assessments for the outdoor pursuits centres. Most recently, we have worked with the School to provide support and guidance relating to reliefs and grants that were available due to Covid-19.
Over multiple revaluations, we have saved the School substantial six-figure savings, and also consolidated multiple assessments across the Estate to establish the best platform for their liabilities moving forwards. We are most proud of being the on-hand advisors to assist with the multiple scenarios that arise over each Revaluation period and look forward to working with the School for future years.
Covid-19 Savings Summary
Working with the School, we have obtained savings in excess of £100,000 in business rates relief and grants for elements of the Estate that can be described as ‘Retail, Leisure or Hospitality’ or Nursery in nature. We anticipate further savings, via appeals to the Valuation Office due to negative effects of Covid-19.
“Bolton School have worked with The Beattie Partnership since their business was formed. Over those many years they have always put the needs of the foundation first. The very high level of comprehensive and professional guidance on which they have advised has been of consistent benefit to the school throughout”
